LED LIKE A LAMB
By a chorister at St. Mary’s.
When asked to
write a piece on Easter Music, I wasn’t sure what to write about, so after
thinking about a few Easter hymns, I have decided to write about my favourite
at Easter, “Led like a Lamb”.
Led like a Lamb
sums up my feelings about the events of Easter perfectly.
The first verse,
as with all the verses, sounds upsetting, using the words “Led like a lamb to
the slaughter, in silence and shame.”
Which also creates an image of disbelief. Why is the Lord shameful? Why are people ashamed of Jesus? He is the Son of God! I find it hard to believe that everyone
wanted the Son of God to die rather than a murderer, and no one tried to stop
this, even if it was God’s will.
This verse also
addresses how the World has turned out.
God made a perfect world, and humans have messed it up. The line, “There on your back you carried the
world of violence and pain,” shows this and makes me feel somewhat guilty that
the human race, which I am part of, has allowed this to happen.
However, the mood
of the song changes at the chorus, “You’re alive, You’re alive. You have risen, Alleluia!” This is how I feel when Easter Sunday arrives
because at this point I know that Jesus is the Son God, and that nothing will
ever be more important or more joyful than this in my life.
“And the power and
the glory is given, Alleluia! Jesus to
You!” shows that now Jesus is being given the praise that he deserves and that
must be given to him. After all, he died
for us. He had a love stronger than
death, which should never be forgotten.
